Betty Jo McCaustland Hiss, 81, died after a long illness Friday, Jan. 19. Memorial services are 2:30 p.m. Tuesday at First Presbyterian Church of Norman.

Mrs. Hiss was born Aug. 20, 1925.

Retired from the Norman Public Schools, she taught home economics from 1964 to 1982. She was a member of PEO, Town and Country Garden Club and a member of the First Presbyterian Church of Norman.

She was a graduate of Kansas State University where she was a member of Chi Omega fraternity.

In addition to being a long-time educator, she was a successful businesswoman, farmer and rancher. Her family said she was particularly pleased to have been able to preserve her grandfather's ranch, dating from the 1800s, for her family.

She was preceded in death by her parents, George and Velma McCaustland of Bucklin, Kan.

She is survived by her daughter and son-in-law Tom and Willa Canfield, Norman; her son and daughter-in-law Robert Hiss and Brenda Stockton-Hiss of Oklahoma City; a brother Robert E. McCaustland, Manhattan, Kan.; and two grandchildren.

The family suggests contributions to the Presbyterian Urban Missions, 3737 N. Portland Oklahoma City, OK 73112, or a favorite charity.
